Radio Mischpoke — Radio Art Collective Halle-Berlin
The artists’ collective has existed since 1998 in various configurations, starting with Ralf Wendt, Thies Streifinger (Halle) and Burghard Vogel (Berlin). Since 2016, Tina Klatte (Halle) and, since 2018, Jasmina Al-Qaisi (Berlin) have worked alongside the founding trio.
Guest artists are regularly involved (Masha Karpushina, Natalia Acevedo Ferreira – Berlin; Theresa Ehrenberg – Leipzig; Elisabeth Rändel, Abir Tawakawalna – Halle; Ute Seitz, Shooresh Fezoni – Heidelberg; Claire Serres – Paris; and Larry Jones – Chicago). The radio art collective uses independent radio stations for FM broadcasts – such as Radio Corax in Halle, Radio Kashmir in Berlin, Radio Bermudafunk in Mannheim, Radio Blau in Leipzig, Radio Orange in Vienna, and various international community radio stations – to connect performances in public spaces with the public sphere of radio waves.
The artists also work as solo performers and curators of sound and radio art (Wendt – RadioRevolten 2006 and 2016 Halle; Klatte – documenta14 radio 2017 Kassel, Berlin; Wendt – Anybody out there D21 Leipzig; Al-Qaisi – Listening Sessions Savvy Berlin). Collaborative projects have been undertaken with various media organizations, including Deutschlandfunk Kultur, Deutschlandfunk, SWR2, ORF Kunstradio Vienna, Heidelberg Theatre, the Handel Festival Halle, Moonah Radio Tasmania, the Tbilisi Architecture Biennale, Georgia, Space21 (Kurdistan, Northern Iraq), radia.fm, “mobile radio” Ürzig, IBA Thuringia, the Experimental Radio program at the Bauhaus University Weimar, the Hyderabad Literature Festival and University, and several times with the Goethe-Institut as a partner for international projects (Sibiu, Romania; Kinshasa, DRC-Berlin; Dakar, Senegal; Prague, Czech Republic).
Ralf Wendt shares his experiences with mobile radio as an artistic practice, both in his teaching and through collaborations with various media organizations, art schools, and radio stations.
